Alongside shard eruptions, Sky: Children of the Light runs three smaller, permanent "Social Light" events that repeat every two hours around the clock: the Polluted Geyser, Grandma's Dinner, and the Sunset Turtle. None of them are seasonal or limited-time — they've stayed in the game since their original events ended — but their exact times aren't shown anywhere in-game, so most players learn the schedule from trial and error or a community-maintained timing guide. Here's what each one actually is and when to be there. For the live countdown, see Sky Clock.
| Event | Starts (Sky time) | Location | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Polluted Geyser | Reset +5 min | Sanctuary Islands | ~10 min, repeats every 2h |
| Grandma's Dinner | Reset +35 min | Elevated Clearing, Hidden Forest | ~10 min, repeats every 2h |
| Sunset Turtle | Reset +50 min | Sanctuary Islands | ~10 min, repeats every 2h |
All three run on the same 2-hour loop as the daily reset itself (00:00 Sky time / America/Los_Angeles), so once you know one cycle's times you know every cycle that day.
Added during the 2021 Days of Nature event — run in partnership with the ocean-cleanup charity The Ocean Cleanup — the geyser sits at sea level between two caves in Sanctuary Islands. At reset it starts venting steam with nothing to collect for 5 minutes; the actual harvestable eruptions don't begin until 00:05. From there, a Darkness "spiky ball" erupts roughly once a minute for about 10 minutes, in three sizes worth different amounts of Light (small, medium, large). A few Darkness Plants nearby also give a one-time bonus the first time you burn them each day. New players who show up right at reset often wait around confused during that 5-minute warm-up — the eruptions genuinely don't start until the +5 mark.
Grandma, the guide spirit of the Season of Belonging, hosts dinner at the Ancestor's Table of Belonging in the Elevated Clearing of Hidden Forest. She appears at 00:30, then starts serving at 00:35 — six white light balls land on the table roughly every minute for about 10 minutes, each burnable for Light. Once she's done, you can hug her before she leaves, a small social moment many players make a point of catching. A recent update fixed several long-standing bugs with her appearing reliably and sitting properly at her own table, so the event runs more consistently now than in earlier versions of the game.
Originally added for 2022's Days of Nature, the Sunset Turtle became a permanent fixture of Sanctuary Islands afterward. It starts at 00:50 and runs for about 10 minutes — just 5 minutes after Grandma's Dinner ends, which is tight enough that reaching it on foot from Hidden Forest takes real hustle. A large Darkness Plant grows on the turtle's shell shortly before the event and is worth burning off for a one-time daily bonus; once cleared, a giant clam opens and the turtle's swim path leaves a trail of collectible Light, alongside several smaller clams scattered in the shallows around the island.
Grandma's Dinner and the Sunset Turtle draw from the same daily pool: once a player has collected 1,000 combined Pieces of Light between the two, burning more balls or clams from either one stops paying out for the rest of that day — with Grandma's table alone theoretically capable of 540 Light in a single 10-minute sitting (6 balls per minute × 9 Light × 10 minutes), that pool empties faster than it looks. The Polluted Geyser has its own separate pool — community estimates put the per-eruption total in the same rough range, shared across everyone present at that cycle, though the exact figure isn't officially published and varies by source. In practice, most solo players walk away with well under any of these totals, since each pool is split among however many people show up. Because Turtle and Grandma share a cap and Turtle comes right after, some players deliberately hit Turtle on an earlier, less crowded cycle before doing Grandma later, so neither one is competing against an already-half-spent pool.
Because the three events land at +5, +35 and +50 minutes past reset, players often chain them into one loop: catch the Geyser in Sanctuary Islands (eruptions wind down around +15), travel to Hidden Forest where Grandma appears at +30 and starts serving at +35, then rush straight back to Sanctuary Islands for Turtle at +50. That's roughly 20 minutes of travel time between Geyser and Grandma — comfortable on wing — versus just 5 minutes between Grandma ending and Turtle starting, which is the part that actually requires hurrying. None of these three events reset on the weekly cycle the way Eye of Eden or the Traveling Spirit rotation do — see the daily & weekly reset guide for how those work — the Geyser/Grandma/Turtle trio instead runs on the same 2-hour daily loop every single day, all year. All the Light collected across these events also feeds the same Candle economy covered in the Wax vs Ascended Candles guide.
